The first-ever 18-liter bottles of Jordan Cabernet Sauvignon debuted at the Food & Wine Classic in Aspen during Mark Oldman’s seminar “IPO Wines for Trillionaires.” There, Mark Oldman coined the phrase, “Make Mine a Melchior.”
After a flurry of press and inquiries from the seminars, John Jordan wanted to share the Jordan Melchior with more wine lovers by creating additional bottles for select locations across the nation. Beautifully etched and painted by hand, only six of these 18-liter bottles of 2012 Jordan Cabernet Sauvignon were produced and will be poured next month at the following restaurants:
- Del Frisco’s Double Eagle Steak House, New York, New York
- Halls Chophouse, Charleston, South Carolina
- Gibsons Bar & Steakhouse, Chicago, Illinois
- Pappas Bros. Steakhouse, Houston, Texas
- STK Las Vegas, Las Vegas, Nevada
Be sure to visit our events calendar for bottle opening party dates in November, kicking off with John Jordan at STK Las Vegas on November 10. (Sorry, New Yorkers. Del Frisco’s has decided to open their Jordan Melchior at a private event.) Consumers can enjoy the sixth bottle at Christmas at Jordan on December 3. Event attendees will also have a chance to win commemorative Jordan Melchior artwork—limited-edition, Belle Époque-inspired screenprints by artist John Vogl of Denver, Colorado—where the Jordans lived before purchasing Jordan Estate.
Pouring straight from the Jordan Melchior, which weighs in at 60 pounds, is made possible by a custom-sized WineKeeper. This system uses a tap and nitrogen to dispense and preserve the wine, allowing glasses to be served without the sommelier physically lifting the hefty bottle. Free-pouring is possible once the bottle gets down to about 40 pounds, as you can see in this photo of me from the Food & Wine Classic, but your arms get tired really fast.

The Jordan Melchior is also featured in Oldman’s latest book, How to Drink Like a Billionaire: Mastering Wine with Joie de Vivre, which debuts this month.
